Research suggests that pandemic-linked obesity levels among children in England could result in costs exceeding £8 billion. Studies reveal a significant increase in obesity among four to five-year-olds and 10 to 11-year-olds between 2019-20 and 2020-21, coinciding with the COVID-19 spread. Researchers warn that costs are expected to rise because overweight and obese children and teenagers tend to become obese adults, resulting in an additional lifelong healthcare cost of £800 million and a societal cost of £8.7 billion.
