The NHS will offer health checks or “MOTs” for over-65s at A&E departments, in an attempt to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions. The scheme, to be implemented across all major emergency departments, will involve on-the-spot checks to identify signs of vulnerability in older patients. NHS chief executive, Amanda Pritchard, believes this approach will assist in providing the right help sooner. The tests will focus on blood pressure, heart health, mobility, malnutrition, and review patients’ falls and respiratory history.
