Crackdown on high-calorie food ‘risks causing higher levels of child malnutrition. Anti-obesity plans to reduce sugar and fat in foods may lead to malnutrition and weight loss in children from poor families, according to the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA). Their research suggests that compensating for the calorie shortfall could increase grocery bills by up to £400 annually. The IEA argues that Public Health England’s policies fail to consider the impact on families who do not consume enough calories.
