Phone companies will meet with the Home Office to address rising snatch thefts in England and Wales, which have more than doubled to 78,000 cases in the past year. Policing Minister Dame Diana Johnson emphasised the need for manufacturers to ensure stolen phones can be permanently disabled. Commander Richard Smith highlighted the tech industry’s role in reducing the resale of stolen handsets.
