Presenting at The BBC has become toxic.

Presenting at The BBC has become toxic.

Used to be a time (a better time) when having a presenting job at the BBC was a real achievement. Now it is  fraught with danger.

BBC Breakfast’s Charlie Stayt is joining co-host Naga Munchetty “under review” after a string of complaints. The process will decide if Stayt, 63, and Munchetty, 50, will face a formal investigation.

Crew are said to have pointed to “rudeness” and “bullying” as well as behaviour that “undermines staff” — with Munchetty shouldering much of the criticism.

But Stayt’s conduct has also been put under the spotlight after a probe was launched into the show’s director, Richard Frediani.

A source said: “A number of people have come forward to share their experiences with Charlie, so the BBC has officially moved to place the complaints under review.

“Charlie and Naga will be assessed separately.” Of course really serious matters such as Saville give cause for huge concern but Charlie Stayt? Really? Often in the pursuit of excellence, expectations of performance can be unbalanced. That is not bullying.

It is very sad it has come to this.
