Fare evasion on London’s public transport network costs Transport for London (TfL) approximately £130 million annually. Despite a slight decrease in the fare evasion rate from 3.9% in 2022–23 to 3.8% in 2023–24, the figure remains above TfL’s target of reducing it to 1.5% by 2030. To address this, TfL has increased penalty fares to £100 and is expanding its enforcement efforts, including deploying over 450 officers and utilizing body-worn cameras to deter and detect fare evaders.
