Airlines at Gatwick, including EasyJet and British Airways, are competing to recruit pilots amid post-pandemic staff shortages. EasyJet offers captains salaries up to £170,000, while BA’s top salaries start around £138,000. Despite EasyJet’s claims that recruitment is part of normal hiring, the industry faces a projected shortage of 80,000 pilots by 2032, according to management consultants Oliver Wyman.
