Amazon to invest $20billion in data centres.

Amazon will invest $20 billion in two Pennsylvania data centre complexes. One will be built near Philadelphia at the Keystone Trade Centre, and the other adjacent to the Susquehanna nuclear power plant. Gov. Josh Shapiro stated this is the largest capital investment in Pennsylvania’s history. The AP adds, “Since 2024 started, Amazon has committed to about $10 billion apiece to data centre projects in Mississippi, Indiana, Ohio and North Carolina as it ramps up its investment in infrastructure to compete with other tech giants to meet the growing demand for artificial intelligence products.” Reuters reports that the investment “will create 1,250 high-skilled jobs and support thousands more in the Amazon Web Services data centre supply chain, the company said.” Amazon’s capital expenditures “totalled about $25 billion in the first quarter, and the company has said it expects to maintain that level of spending for the rest of the year.”
