Junk food causing ‘more damage to health now than smoking in 1950’s. Experts fear the health impact of ultra-processed food will be greater than that of 1950s smoking levels. Dr Chris van Tulleken and other health specialists will address the International Food Addiction Consensus Conference, advocating the World Health Organization to classify addiction to ultra-processed foods as a substance-use disorder. They warn of significant dangers, citing obesity rates and disease risks, and likening food manufacturers to tobacco companies of the past.
