Rickshaw & Co.

“Making people happy with food.”

The editorial team at The File were given a real treat the other day, as we took part in the third year celebrations of Rickshaw & Co. This brilliant local restaurant can be found in Glasgow’s West End, just minutes from Kelvingrove and the University of Glasgow.

Rickshaw & Co.  is fast becoming a Glasgow institution, with it’s colourful decor, friendly atmosphere and great food. We met with one of the owners: Tushar Ahmed who positively gushed with enthusiasm for the food served, the happiness it brings to his customers and a very obvious sense of community that he showed through what he said for our headline and giving away free food for the third anniversary. FREE FOOD? Yes, really.

Beautiful food.

Rickshaw & Co. was named ‘Curry Kings of Glasgow’ by the Scottish Asian Curry Awards and won South West Indian Restaurant of the Year at the Scottish Asian Food Awards. But it’s about more than food. Co-founded by Tushar Ahmed, Krishna Devkota, and Gulshan Soni, Rickshaw & Co. was built on friendship, nostalgia and a shared belief in the power of community.
Their aim has always been to create a space that feels welcoming, inclusive and rooted in care—where everyone, from international students to families, tourists to neighbours, feels at home.
Co-founder Gulshan Soni  said: “Turning three is a big moment for us. Whether you’re a student, a tourist, or someone who lives round the corner—we want to thank everyone who’s supported us. Come in, grab a seat, and celebrate with us. Community is what keeps us going.”
We should point out here that it may be about “more than the food”, but the food is bloody good. We sampled a variety of dishes which were made considerately for palate’s that are keen on Indian food but not extreme heat. They listened to what we said and prepared the dishes accordingly.

The food was really tasty and we were expertly guided through the dishes by Tushar, which was handy. He was taught to cook by his mother who obviously did a good job. The blends and tastes were exquisite and they looked fantastic.

An authentic taste of India and Bangladesh, with a menu packed with fresh, flavourful dishes. From savoury chaats and fragrant curries to sweet treats.

UPDATE

It has been a difficult week at Rickshaw & Co following a break-in which left them £3.500 short of tips. Co-owner Tushar Ahmed said: “It’s heartbreaking. We work hard, our team works hard, and for someone to violate the place like this is deeply upsetting. The stolen tips were meant for our staff — that’s the worst part. We’re grateful no one was hurt, but the damage and the loss hit hard.”

On the positive side Tushar your sugar cane cocktails have received US presidential approval, in a way.
