‘Menopause is NOT a disease and is often over-medicalised’

Menopause is being “over-medicalised” in high-income countries, including the UK, according to experts from King’s College, London, and the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne. They revealed that whilst most women globally navigate menopause without medical treatments, there is a common perception in wealthy nations that menopause warrants hormone replacement therapy. The study indicated a lack of data to differentiate health problems caused by ageing or menopause, and highlighted the potential disempowering effect of a medicalised view on women.
