Meta is abandoning the use of independent fact checkers on Facebook and Instagram, replacing them with X-style “community notes” where commenting on the accuracy of posts is left to users.
In a video posted alongside by the company on Tuesday, chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said third-party moderators were “too politically biased” and it was “time to get back to our roots around free expression”.
First off – for a billionare he’s not aged well, has he? Dumping fact-checkers at first glance seems to confirm the view that SM is a cesspit of lies and misinformation. But listen closely and you will detect some political game-play here with Zuck seeking to work closely with Trump.
Facts are rarely an issue on SM and this changes nothing really. Only when real punishments are in place will that happen.
