Jane Dipika Garrett, 22, has made history by being the first plus-sized contestant for Miss Universe.
The model, who is Nepalese American, competed in the renowned international beauty pageant in November after winning Miss Nepal earlier this year.
As well as modelling, Garrett is also a nursing student and a body positivity advocate.
She said that she was proud to represent beauty in all its forms at Miss Universe:
“As a curvy woman who doesn’t follow certain beauty standards, I’m here to represent all women…
“I love my curves,” she added. “My body is my temple and I will take care of it as holy ground.”
Miss Garrett ultimately came Top 20 in the competition, making it through to the semifinals. She posted a message on Instagram to thank her fans for their support:
“Top 20 baby! I’m grateful to all my fans and people who supported me.
“I gave my best and that’s what matters! I’m so proud to be representing real size beauty around the world and breaking the stereotypes of beauty pageants.”
She also congratulated fellow contestant, Sheynnis Palacios, from Nicaragua, for winning the competition and being crowned the 72nd Miss Universe.

Garrett’s achievements certainly haven’t gone unnoticed, as TikTok videos under the model’s name have garnered over 19.5 million views collectively.
“Congratulations Jane Dipika Garrett. Such a bold and beautiful girl,” one TikTok user commented.
“I seriously started crying when you got called into the top 20. You represent curvy girls like me. I’m so proud of you Jane,” another user wrote.
In addition to Garrett’s success, this year’s competition saw other important milestones, such as Portugal’s Marina Machete and Netherlands’ Rikkie Kolle being the first transgender Miss Universe contestants.
