UK on Fire

Riots lead to drop in footfall.

Footfall plummeted across the UK in the week marred by far-right riots in English cities. Retail footfall across the UK dropped last week due the riots and looting in England and Belfast.
Data from Sensormatic showed significant declines, with Manchester down 17.5% and Bristol 13.4%. Retail expert Diane Wehrle warned the unrest undermines consumer confidence and could harm regional high streets and tourism. The British Retail Consortium will hold an emergency meeting, and home secretary Yvette Cooper promised “swift justice” for those involved.
