Rising ciggie costs a drag for smokers. The rising cost of cigarettes is prompting more smokers to quit, according to a University College London study. Between 2018 and 2023, the number of smokers quitting due to financial concerns increased from 19% to 25.4%. While health concerns remain the primary motivation for quitting, financial motives have been gaining prominence since 2020. The study also notes that by October 2026, a pack of cigarettes will cost over £16 following an increase in tobacco duty.
