Food retailers have experienced a significant rise in shoplifting by pensioners over the past year, according to Kingdom Security. John Nussbaum, the director of service for retail at the firm, attributed this trend to the cost of living crisis, noting that pensioners are increasingly resorting to theft due to financial desperation. Nussbaum stated that about 5% of those caught shoplifting weekly are over 50, with many retailers opting to handle such cases internally.
