Sportwashing Saudis

Saudi Arabia, spearheaded by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and senior figures from the state’s £492 billion Public Investment Fund, continue to invest billions in sport, including women’s sport. This investment is part of an ongong effort to modernise the nation, align it with its Vision 2030 ambitions, and placate the younger generation. Critics, however, view this as “sportswashing”, while tensions simmer over views on the state’s human rights record and treatment of women.
