The trial of two men accused of illegally chopping down the famous tree at Sycamore Gap in Northumberland is under way. The tree, which had been valued at more than £620,000 and was owned by the National Trust, was discovered lying across Hadrian’s Wall on 28 September 2023
Graham, 39, and Adam Carruthers, 32, both from Cumbria, are charged with causing £622,191 worth of criminal damage to the famous treeThey are also accused of causing £1,144 of damage to the Wall, a Unesco World Heritage Site
The trial at Newcastle Crown Court is expected to last for 10 days and if you can get over two years for an ill-judged post on Facebook, then these two should get life. They are arseholes, cutting down a beautiful tree like this.
