UK has bigger population than France for first time on record

The UK population has exceeded that of France for the first time on record. In mid-2023, it stood at 68.3 million, surpassing France’s 68.2 million. Figures from the Office for National Statistics suggest that the UK population may reach 72.5 million by mid-2032, up 5 million from 67.6 million in mid-2022. The main driver of growth over the period is international migration.
