The family of a man stabbed to death 20 years ago have said the “wrong man is in prison” for his murder as calls are made for the conviction to be overturned.

Jason Moore was jailed for life with a minimum term of 18 years in 2013 after being found guilty of murdering 42-year-old Robert Darby in Ilford, east London, in August 2005.

Moore had denied murder and his family say new evidence has come to light, which could prove his innocence. Their calls for his conviction to be overturned have been supported by Mr Darby’s family.

The Criminal Case Review Commission (CRRC) said: “We have received an application in relation to this case and a review is under way.”

Moore’s sister Kirstie Moore said she gave the Criminal Case Review Commission (CRRC) new evidence 14 months ago which she believes could prove her brother is innocent but said she was still waiting for a response.

Ms Moore claims a key witness who originally said they saw the murder now says they did not.

She hopes the new information submitted formally in 2023 could lead to the whole case being referred back to the Court of Appeal.

Mancbeth: If manc's did shakespeare, featured trailer

In modern-day Manchester, England, a city rife with crime and drug trade, “Mancbeth” unfolds as a gripping tale of ambition, betrayal, and tragic consequences. The play opens with Mancbeth and his loyal friend, Banquo, two ambitious drug dealers, returning from a successful drug deal. On their way back, they encounter a trio of shadowy homeless street characters who predict that Mancbeth will become the top crime boss in the city. Fueled by this prophecy, Mancbeth’s lust for power is ignited. Upon arriving home, Mancbeth shares the prophecy with his cunning and ambitious wife, Sharon Mancbeth. Seeing an opportunity to further their criminal empire, she persuades him to take fate into his own hands and eliminate any obstacles in their path. Duncan, the current crime boss and a benevolent figure, trusts Mancbeth and arrives in Manchester for a high-profile drug trade meeting.

Under the influence of his wife’s manipulative tactics and driven by ambition, Mancbeth betrays Duncan’s trust by assassinating him, seizing control of his drug empire. Consumed by guilt and paranoia, Mancbeth spirals into a ruthless tyrant. He orders the hit on Banquo, fearing that his best friend’s son, Fleance, might challenge his reign in the future. Haunted by guilt and tormented by the ghosts of his victims, Mancbeth’s sanity begins to crumble. Sharon Mancbeth, too, is consumed by guilt, descending into madness as she wrestles with the consequences of their actions. As Mancbeth’s drug empire crumbles under the weight of suspicion and rival factions, he becomes increasingly desperate and ruthless in maintaining his power.

Meanwhile, Macduff, a rival crime boss, suspects Mancbeth’s involvement in Duncan’s murder and is determined to bring him to justice. Macduff flees the city to seek support from the authorities, leaving his family vulnerable and unprotected. Mancbeth seizes this opportunity and orders the ruthless murder of Macduff’s family, unknowingly stoking Macduff’s burning desire for revenge.

The city of Manchester descends into chaos, with rival crime factions vying for dominance. Mancbeth’s grip on power becomes more tenuous, and he descends into a frenzied state of paranoia and hallucinations. The shadowy homeless street characters continue to haunt him, and he seeks guidance from them once more, but their cryptic messages only fuel his madness.

As Macduff returns with an army to overthrow Mancbeth, a tragic final confrontation takes place. Mancbeth, desperate and delusional, fights valiantly but is ultimately slain by Macduff in a violent and cathartic showdown. Sharon Mancbeth, consumed by guilt and madness, takes her own life, bringing the tumultuous tale of greed and betrayal to its heart-wrenching conclusion.

With the fall of Mancbeth, a fragile peace is restored to the streets of Manchester, but the price paid for power and ambition leaves a lasting scar on the city and its inhabitants. “Mancbeth” in modern-day Manchester serves as a cautionary tale, reminding us of the destructive consequences of unchecked ambition and the allure of power in a world dominated by crime and drugs
