Spotify tells us what we have been listening to over the last year. It’s revealed more about each of us than we’d care to admit. That song you were obsessed with back in March but now can’t stand? There it is, top of the pile. All those tunes that feature heavily on playlists you use to sleep, work or gym? Now you know exactly how many times you’ve heard them.
But this year’s Spotify Wrapped goes beyond mere individual listeners. Spotify has also released data for the UK as a whole, offering insights into all the biggest artists, songs, albums and audiobooks that Britain has gorged on in 2024.
The top artist listened to in the UK was, surprise, surprise, Taylor Swift. Her dominance is easy to understand, given that Taylor’s Eras Tour over the summer was one of the year’s biggest musical events. Swift also scooped up the title of ‘most-streamed album’ in the UK this year, with 2024’s The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology.
The most-streamed individual song by Brits this year was Noah Kahan’s ‘Stick Season’. There’s no denying that Kahan is now a bona fide superstar and massively popular over here.
The UK’s Spotify Wrapped is also broken down into genres, revealing the nation’s top picks for rock and indie artist (Arctic Monkeys) and song (‘I Wanna Be Yours’ by Arctic Monkeys), metal artist (Bring Me The Horizon) and song (‘Paranoid’ by Black Sabbath), and rap artist (Central Cee) and song (‘BAND4BAND’ by Central Cee feat. Lil Baby).
